Public Meetings
The 董事会 generally schedules one public meeting each month. Study Sessions, which provide opportunities for in-depth and informal board discussions of issues, are held as needed. Regular Action Sessions, where the 董事会 votes on recommendations made by the Superintendent or 财务主管, are held on the fourth Tuesday of the month. Please check the 学校 Calendar for exact dates and times. Meetings begin at 6:00 PM and are held in the Cafeteria at Oberlin Elementary 学校. Public announcement is made of any change in this schedule. Executive sessions are scheduled to discuss confidential matters as defined by state law. These sessions are announced, but they are not open to the public. The 董事会 of Education also holds regular public forums. These forums are publicized in advance and they provide an opportunity for discussion on matters of special interest to the public. Oberlin 董事会 of Education meetings are broadcast live or tape-delayed on our Youtube Channel, 流.oberlinschools.网 .
Public Participation
The 董事会 welcomes public input in its deliberations. If you would like to ask questions or make brief comments on an agenda item, the 董事会 President, at his/her discretion will recognize you at the end of the 董事会 discussion, and prior to a vote being taken. In addition, if you wish to address the 董事会 on a matter not on the agenda you may sign in at the monthly Action meeting. You will be recognized during a "Hearing of the Public" at the end of the 董事会 meeting. Bylaw 0169.1 "In order to permit the fair and orderly expression of such comment, the 董事会 shall provide a period for public participation at every regular meeting of the 董事会 and publish rules to govern such participation in 董事会 meetings (E) Each statement made by a participant shall be limited to three (3) minutes duration."
Functions of the 董事会
The 董事会 of Education is responsible for developing and updating policies, approving the budget, hiring the Superintendent and the 财务主管, and considering action on recommendations made by the Superintendent and/or the 财务主管 on such matters as personnel, 政策, budget and curriculum. 成员 of the 董事会 are not authorized to act individually, except when voting at a board meeting. No member of the 董事会 may represent the 董事会 outside of a meeting unless the 董事会 votes to delegate that authority.
